since it’s inception in 1991 on the streets of glasgow, soma records has stood for uncompromising quality of the highest level in every area it operates. stuart mcmillan & orde meikle formed slam during the acid house explosion in the late 80’s and then together with friends glenn gibbons & dave clarke they forged one of electronic music’s most widely known and well respected labels. with mcmillan & meikle as the figureheads with their slam project and influenced by the early detroit techno scene, soma quickly began to develop it’s own sound and with their eyes firmly fixed on a vision of the future, the team began the quest to instill their unquenchable thirst for electronic music into the world around them. soma quickly became an international brand as slam’s anthemic “positive education” brought about an electronic renaissance that saw the group thrust into the limelight and green lit the furious rise of the label.

2021 repress! label head amelie lens herself creates a banging techno record. three tracks full of energy acid techno. holding steady after a much busy 2017 season that saw her multiply releases on the likes of pan-pot imprint, second state or arts, belgian techno architect amelie lens is now set to release her debut solo outing on her own label lenske, following an ep from the newcomer milo spykers and a fine collaborative effort with fellow antwerp-based producer farrago, featuring a remix from ostgut ton protégé kobosil.

the remarkable second album, “indigo”, from singer and pianist kandace springs is a 13-track lp of originals and choice covers that showcases the full breadth of kandace’s artistry from smoldering r&b (“piece of me”) to gorgeous jazz ballads (“unsophisticated” featuring roy hargrove) to the pop songcraft of “breakdown” and “don’t need the real thing,” the album’s lead single which is out today. all but two tracks are produced by drummer/producer karriem riggins (common, erykah badu) with additional production by jamie hartman (rag n bone man), jimmy hogarth (amy winehouse, corinne bailey rae), jimmy harry (madonna, p!nk) and evan rogers and carl sturken (rihanna).

after many years of steady work bristol-based artist joefarr created a well-respected profile on his own, he is now joining the label showing a side of his works that many never saw probably, and others always knew but never saw on a record. development always takes time, and time is nothing when the art comes out in his true form. this is “dedicate” - a very important record that represents something deeper than a peace of wax, label boss emmanuel took the big responsibility to remix the title track and make his own view of joefarr’s dedication.

rekids regular markus suckut drops his third album entitled heaven is a state of mind this september. when not helming his own imprints, sckt and pattern research, the dusseldorf artist has been releasing on rekids since 2015 and is now a core member of the labels family. earlier this year saw the arrival of new life ep, a mesmerising release exemplary of the producer’s knack for making imaginative house and techno complete with a compelling groove. no stranger to the long player format having released two albums previously, markus suckut returns to radio slaves label with a quality nine-track album. from the word go suckuts album demonstrates his versatility as a musician, initiating with a beatless intro named escape, before breeze comes into play with its skipping percussion and loopy atmospherics. crunchy snares and crystalline synths make up suns out whilst future is not always bright drives forward with its sultry low-end, ethereal pads and sci-fi bleeps, leading into take a break and its medley of elaborate drums, living up to its name. above the clouds is comprised of intricate notes and soothing chords whilst the machinelike orchid features electro inspired melodies, contrasting to the albums title track, heaven is a state of mind, with its bumpy bass and warping textures. wonderland (version) is a ghostly acid cut which suitably closes the album

raised on the best of popular and underground dance music of the 70s and 80s, partner has created an outlet to pay homage to the finest hooks and loops from around the world, seamlessly repurposing them for the dancefloor. first up, a-side track patu launches headfirst into an off-kilter bollywood infused dancefloor curveball punchy drums, melodic vocals and vintage instrumentation, save your weirdest shapes for this one. on the flip, my people gives an injection of latin heat triumphant, horns and an unrelenting rhythms section throw this into full carnival spirit. just in time for the summer. since relocating to london from brighton, things have been taking shape for partner music. last year saw a debut festival slot at dimensions festival, plus a handful of great support from the likes ofmount kimbie, dan shake and san proper. with some exciting releases lined up throughout 2018, its looking like a promising year for the budding producer. with this release high praise continue to build their status as a label to keep an eye on, with their party series and clothing line steadily growing in popularity.

mennie and julien sandre team up under their jarau alias for an impressive ep on one records. dubnova features two originals that span hypnotic synths, warm, sonic basslines and intricate spacey layers. for the remix, musical craftsmen dewalta and voigtmann join forces for the first time since their monumental ground effect ep on jan kruger s hello? repeat in 2014. here they showcase the more techno side to their production skills. friends and colleagues, mennie and julien, began the jarau project in 2017 to experiment and push creative boundaries. 2018 saw the release of their interstellar ep on respected vinyl imprint pleasure zone, which will be followed by this heavy-weight offering on one records. tenax resident mennie was named by dj mag as one of the most prominent emerging italian producers. born in france and now based in italy, julien runs the acclaimed blind box vinyl only label, which he started in 2015. meander boss dewalta a.k.a david koch is one of the most admired artists in the industry, not only a talent behind the decks he delivers a remarkable live set and has released a wealth of music on key underground labels. claus voigtmann was originally born in germany but bases himself in london, where he co-founded the underground and conceptual party, toi.toi.musik. this year sees the release of his eagerly anticipated album and a focus on his subsequent imprint, also playing regularly alongside adam shelton and subb-an for their one records showcases

official repress on 12inch of these sought after charly kingson tunes. the label says: charly kingson, (ps. for charlie kingue soppo) is a legend of afro-funk who managed to shake the entire continent up with his infamous 1978 lp, born in africa. often forgotten when conversations turn to afro-dance, and the likes of tony allen or fela kuti, he has been an incredible source of inspiration to many musicians exploring the funkier side of jazz-dance, and this album itself goes way beyond any traditional notion of tropical discotheque. -born in african- itself is a funky groover for the dancefloor and here is the original 1982 remix, made by dutch legendary percussionist eddie conard available again, featuring nimele bolo on the flip-side. released in 1982 on ariola/fleet, but also pressed on the original fleet label. the latter (remarkably with identical catalog-number) never saw daylight. but, we got them all! all in all, this hard to find 12 inch (at discogs copies on the ariola/fleet label go for around 250 euro) was recently re-discovered, and now you can finally enjoy it again

breach is back with his second release of the year on his new imprint nkdltd. on nkdltd002 breach delivers a two tracker entitled ‘turtle dance which continues where he left off in quality but stylistically stepping into warmer tones for the summer months. nkdltd001 saw the first release from the amsterdam based producer in three years and with it a return to breachs roots. deep, dark & moody tracks which went on to resonate with a broad selection of artists including benji b who went on to play it numerous times on his seminal bbc radio 1 show.

detroit s inner city, one of the most influential dance acts of all time celebrated their 30th anniversary starting with a memorial day live show on the main stage of detroit’s movement festival this year. formed in 1987 by record producer, composer and international dj kevin saunderson and vocalist paris grey, inner city are best known for their early crossover hits “big fun” and “good life”. further successes saw the group topping the us billboard dance chart five times and securing nine top 40 hits on the uk singles chart.this 30th anniversary will mark a new chapter for inner city, one which sees kevin saunderson now joined by his son and creative protégé dantiez as a full-time member. new material and a live show will soon follow, featuring a variety of musical collaborators and vocalists. movement festival will set the stage for inner city’s new era, with a show formation featuring grammy winner and original inner city bandleader dennis white and kevin saunderson’s long-time collaborator tommy onyx alongside local talent and vocal sensation, steffanie christi’an. in kevin’s own words: “a true family and new sound for a new generation”. with over three decades in the game under inner city’s wing, with a renewed commitment to live performances featuring a strong family core, and two generations of saunderson men in the studio – inner city are poised to enjoy the good life as much today as they did in 1987 and this is entirely evident on the group s latest offering heavy . boasting a stellar edit from detroit techno luminary and inner city collaborator carl craig, heavy is a fresh taste of what s to come from this legendary outfit. essential detroit techno.

dan stielow mortazavi has an outer edged family background and a long testament in music starting in his teens with his first recorded project the product that was self released to cassette back in 1983. three decades later it saw a vinyl release on the dark entries label. the debut spite cathedral lp is made with his long-time musical partner karsten svendsen (to feed on others, hinsidan, ate23) and is released with a free bonus 7” on bodies on july 2nd. ultra minimalism streaming from the darkest of places still with a presence of a cold, cold love. with sparse elements they create dramatic scenery. industrial beats backed with something that sounds like hostage jazz and rock drummers fused with the loneliest of themes, epic at times and oh so broken at others. touching topics of man’s inhumanity, paranoid misinterpretations, the fragility of the mind, sex and broken homes without mouthing a single word.

sextet (1982) will be released on clear orange vinyl (with download code included) in a textured sleeve replicating the original factory release. dark and brooding, yet bright and funky, sextet is a firm favourite amongst the critics and saw a certain ratio refine the experimentation of the first two albums and deliver a masterpiece that is as off-kilter and weird as it is commercial and pop.

ital foundation came together in the winter of 1977, out of a shared belief in rastafarianism and deep love of reggae music in their home place bermuda. their music tackles global issues of colonialism, poverty, prophecy and redemption. they released only one album in their legendary career, the 1980 release ital foundations vol.1. a tumultous history rought with trial and tribulation resulted in ital foundation being an underground musical movement that saw record sales all over the world while the band languished in obscurity.

a past affiliate of richie hawtin’s minus label, berlin-based expat kevin mchugh (aka ambivalent) joins the ranks at cpu under his more recent alter ego of la-4a. mchugh launched his own delft imprint in 2013, which saw the birth of la-4a, initially an anonymous production handle. on slackline, mchugh delivers 4 tracks of uncompromising techno: you’ll find interwoven breaks and refined sampling, and as the track entitled punishment clearly suggests, only the hardiest of techno fans will survive it’s onslaught.

b from e (frej garcia levin) represents a new generation of talented young artists making waves in copenhagen. of mexican-danish descent, and born and raised in the notorious tower blocks of the south-western suburbs of copenhagen, the 27-year old is on the up-and-up. in high demand as the founder of boom bap rap group natkat, producer of pop outfit ny sensei (new sensei) and head of tape-only label buddahood, the multi-talent seems to have a hand in everything at the moment. his 2017 debut porno tr-xxx (c.u.p) saw some of the hottest names in the game spinning b from e at last year s dekmantel festival, resulting in offers from several well-known record labels.

memories — places, vacancies, allusions — are fundamental characters in mary lattimore’s evocative craft. inside her music, wordless narratives, indefinite travelogues, and braided events skew into something enchantingly new. the los angeles-based harpist recorded her breakout 2016 album, at the dam, during stops along a road trip across america, letting the serene landscapes of joshua tree and marfa, texas color her compositions. in 2017, she presented collected pieces, a tape compiling sounds from her past life in philadelphia: odes to the east coast, burning motels, and beach town convenience stores. in 2018, from a restorative station — a redwood barn, nestled in the hills above san francisco s golden gate bridge — emanates hundreds of days, her second full-length lp with ghostly international. the record sojourns between silences and speech, between microcosmic daily scenes and macrocosmic universal understandings, between being alien in promising new places and feeling torn from old native havens. it’s an expansive new chapter in lattimore’s story, and an expression of mystified gratitude. a study in how ordinary components helix together to create an extraordinary world.

(eaten alive!) is still banned in most countries but received on youtube unbelievable 815 000 hits. certainly also because of it’s amazing score which was produced and written by italian composer roberto donati and maria fiamma maglione.

lost lp from 1977, rebuilt from original tapes, by the creator of black devil disco club the french electronic music pioneer behind black devil disco club, released three seminal library albums in the seventies: suspense (1975), cosmos 2043 (1977) and the strange world of bernard fevre (1977). a fourth album called orbit ceremony, produced just a few months after remained in his home studio and never saw the light, sentenced to almost 40 years in the devil’s vault. by chance, while working on the re-issues, bernard fevre recently found the original lost tapes of orbit ceremony, including the multi-tracks which he remastered himself. spacy moogs, weird clavinet, and cosmic analog drum machines: it’s all here. the quirky, cosmic library music found on this long-deleted 70&#8242,,,,s science-fiction-themed album is full of burbling synths and off-kilter melodies. there’s only one man on this planet able to produce such a crazy sound. as soon as you press play you know you’ve embarked on a special and unique ‘back to the future’ trip. don’t worry, fasten your seat belt and relax. captain fevre is taking care of everything.

returning with renewed force after henning baer’s unbreakable debut lp, manhigh’s sixth release comes from a name already well-known in techno circles. sciahri is the italian producer whose luminous 2014 debut on the celebrated ilian tape’s itx experimental series immediately announced his presence, followed by another on the label and two eps for the highly-rated black opal offshoot of opal tapes by 2016. he was simultaneously occupied with his ambient-leaning unknot duo with emanuele porcinai, better known as wsr on samuel kerridge’s contort label. 2017 saw the launch of his sublunar imprint and a tripartite release from him featuring a more streamlined sound than the craggy broken-beat style familiar from ilian tape. sciahri’s manhigh ep opens with ‘demur’, showcasing his most dour, industrial sounds, scraping metallic highs against the unrelenting impacts of reverberating kicks and subbass drone. ‘forbidden’ holds its forces more in reserve, the cycling, mechanical soundscape maintaining a spacious, ambient aspect, worked against a broken rhythm more implied than explicitly stated. returning to full intensity for ‘reliance’, he tightly coils the core elements around deftly-deployed percussion and a militaristic, pounding rhythm in the bass and kicks. henning baer’s reinterpretation of ‘demur’ saves little from the original apart from its overriding tension, instead adding a layer of nearly-tonal pads and an unremitting acidic bass throb pushing forwards inexorably.

memory disks. volume one. chevron. the blackpool born sorcerer is conjuring up spellbinding tracks that boil and bubble between supernatural rave, occult acid and inverted techno. dripping from speakers, a concoction of swirling chords simmer as a spiced shower of razor edged rhythms are poured into the pot. shadowy notes ghost like phantoms behind crunching beats, beastly bars growl as keys slide and slither between nine short, medium and long excursions into the glow-stick festooned musical mind of jonathan valentine. nestled amongst the bewitching synthesizer psychedelia, peering from behind the purple forests and white dwarf frogs, are less frenetic works, a soft balance to the frenzied chicanery and chrome plated magic. simply put, a weird and wonderful ep where the only stable point, the only spot of secured safety, is the needle on the record.

2017 saw cesar merveille & ryan crosson deliver their second long player in the shape of cerulean, drawing on their modern classical, jazz, ambient and abstract influences to create yet another unique listen featuring collaborations with a classical pianist, trumpet, guitar and double bass players. here we see those original parts eschewed into something entirely fresh from friends and close associates of the duo. leading on the release is cadenza boss lucianos sous le sol interpretation of arp, which twists and turns through the hypnotic chimes and emotive piano chords of the original whilst stirring in luciens signature modulating and intricately evolving rhythmic style. following is a collaborative rework from new yorks phil moffa and seth troxler which employs ethereal synth drones and stuttering vocal cuts alongside a bumpy percussive drive and pulsating subs. perlons bruno pronsato steps up next to remix even tides, delivering his typically raw and emotive style via glitched out, mind-bending percussion, elongated bass drones and cleverly reshaped cuts of the originals cinematic elements. l.as clovis then closes the package with his remix of nordic bummers, employing shuffled hats, lumpy subs and crunchy claps at its core whilst horn swells and aiy atmospherics ebb and flow throughout.

listening back to roman poncets first releases on figure just a couple years ago, they already hinted at the producers keen technical abilities and a knack for rich texturing, resulting in tracks that were both carried by force and form. what he delivers now is an impressively mature debut album, ripe with personal creative realization. on gypsophila the french producer uses the extended format to slowly shape up a scenery of epic proportions where surprise and constant change lurk around every corner.

originally released back in 2011, lord giveth, lord taketh away, saw freddie gibbs team up with legendary east coast beat maker statik selektah. the project was recorded in a single day, with the sessions being broadcast out on u-stream. across the seven track ep, gibbs showcases his hyper technical gansta rap flow, stepping out of his comfort zone rapping over some classic nyc boom bap production. the ep features guest spots from trae the truth, smoke dza, termanology and more. omerta inc. will be bringing this collaborative project to vinyl for the first time. as well as featuring the seven tracks from the original project, the vinyl release will include two bonus tracks, crushin’ feelings and carry on featuring joey bada$$.

i wonder is the first vinyl release on sean mccabes excellent good vibrations music label. originally featured on nathan adams audio therapy lp (2013) on tribe records, i wonder demonstrates nathan s ability to write real heartfelt songs spectacularly delivered & oozing soul. the original, which saw early support from louie vega, dj spinna, mood ii swing, joey negro and kevin hedge, is now released as a single for the first time on sean mccabe s good vibrations music label. complete with brand new remixes from the one & only louie vega, and a killer late night dub from sean - this is the real deal

bawrut has had an amazing couple of years. since kicking our label off back in 2015 with the modern acid classic ciquita (12inches of which will now set you back silly money on discogs), the madrid-based producer has gone from strength to strength. last year saw him tear down sets at sonar and farr festivals, drop a feted new ep on hard fist records, and have his music soundtrack numerous adverts for fabric events. other djs have been quick to show their appreciation, and bawrut’s unique appeal can be seen in how far and wide across the spectrum his music has featured. optimo, avalon emerson, patrick topping, jackmaster, artwork, andrew weatherall and many more have all supported heavily. were proud to kickstart bawrut’s 2018 with 4x4, a brand new ep of typically leftfield bangers. these four tracks come on like a whirlwind journey through a bawrut dj set, with something for every time of the night. ghettoscar fuses african chants with burbling acid, building the kind of goodtime dancefloor warmth bawrut is famed for. more cowbell does exactly what you’d expect, giving djs a glorious, cowbell-powered disco bomb that fuses the spirit of incredible bongo band with classic nyc house. i hear voices is a crazy ride, with an expertly cut up vocal sample repurposed into a weird, descending riff that’s quite unlike anything else out there. throw in bawrut’s trademark kitbag of carnival whistles, rattling latin percussion and a creeping acid line that works itself up into a soul-salving joy and youve got a modern classic on your hands. finally, lead track three sounds is probably bawruts biggest moment to date, a peak time jacking techno monster built from the most minimal of elements - drums, claps, a one note bass squelch and a tom drum gone wild. bawrut takes this tom sound and treats it like a 303, pushing far off the rails, working it up and up, twisting it through pitch and frequency like a man possessed, raising its pressure til it tears off the roof. theres no one else making techno quite like it - and you can expect dancefloors to be going crazy to the mania of three sounds throughout 2018 so there you have it - four more missives from the wizard of madrid. play em loud.

fockewulf 190 was a new wave group from milan formed in 1980 by vittorio barozzi aka victor life and dario dell aere. in 1979 the duo met outside a cinema and began a lifelong collaboration of projects: diamond dogs, ice eyes, demode boulevard and fockewulf 190, named after the model jet planes dario fanatically built. musically, the duo were inspired by the human leagues reproduction and john foxxs metamatic, while they took visual cues from the new romantics visage and ultravox. with the fockewulf 190 moniker, they created their own dark blend of italo disco and new wave, and released two singles in 1984 and recorded an album?s worth of music that eventually saw the light of day in 2010.

lagaffe tales co-founder jónbjörn drops four tracks on icelands falk records beat driven sub-label, falk disks. since 2008 falk (fuck art lets kill) has become a creative hub for icelandic and international artists involved in experimental and electronic music, spanning noise rock through to power electronics, underground hip-hop to diy techno and electro. 2017 saw falk continue with releases from icelandic hip-hop producer lord pusswhip, techno/electro producer thizone and canadian industrial techno musician /&#991,,,/huren/&#991,,,/. berlin based icelandic producer jónbjörn, known for curating reykjavík record label lagaffe tales – one of the main pillars in the icelandic house scene – now joins falks’ club focused sub-imprint with a robust four tracker. moving away from the deep house sound hes renowned for towards a darker and leaner night time aesthetic, amsiak inaugurates the release with an infectious electro groove as gurgling pings and acidic clangs and drones are liberally dropped throughout the track. aspekte is a spacious track with blown-out bass sounds that morph and glide across a tempered, slow burning planar rhythm. on the flip, jonbjörn goes for a harder techno sound influenced by his relocation to berlin. sunnudagskaffi is a bendy, 4/4 roller that contains hidden grooves below the basslines and the acid pings that wouldnt be out of place on a livity sound release. meanwhile, holy b is pure warehouse creeper techno, complete with machinic tones and the atmospherics of sweat and grime on dungeon brick walls.

norwegian duo smerz had a prolific 2017, which saw the copenhagen-based henriette and catharina play the likes of club 2 club, moma ps1, sell out half life parties of their own, as well as release five new tracks along with five self-directed videos. clearly not ones to wait around, smerz go in to the new year with their have fun ep on the horizon for release via xl recordings in march 2018. with their unique electronic sound blending deconstructed club music, minimalist r&b and experimental pop and techno, smerz are also prolific djs who s djing style takes a similar route. mixing live vocals over their own music and interlaced with choice cuts aimed squarely at the dancefloor, this duo dj hard in a live setting and are thrilling to watch as well as listen. smerz currently host their own monthly nts radio residency, mixing cutting-edge dance music and darker tones, in what is turning in to their trademark style.
